Louisiana needs more planning.

Before Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, fewer than 10 parishes
in Louisiana had master plans or hazard mitigation plans.

Under the constant threat of natural and man-made disasters,
it is critical that our state invest in planning.

Under the constant threat of natural and man-made disasters,
it is critical that our state invest in planning.

Without a statewide planning department, our communities do not have adequate access to planning resources.

A lack of planning often leads to:

  • A lack of connectivity
  • Disinvestment in city centers
  • Sprawl with severe traffic congestion
  • Limited transportation choices and limited mobility
  • Economic segregation and loss of economic opportunity
  • Distressed public schools
  • Lack of public green space
  • Loss of cultural heritage and a sense of place
  • Loss of natural resources
  • Failure to implement improvements

What can we do?

If we don't plan, we risk uncoordinated, disjointed
development that hinders more than it helps.

With a historic amount of energy industrial investment coming
to Louisiana, we cannot afford to grow with out a plan.

Our theory for change.

Change doesn't happen overnight.

But, over the long term, if we continue to educate and
equip communities — both rural and urban — with planning
tools and resources, we can create a more innovative,
resilient and livable Louisiana.

But, over the long term, if we continue to educate and
equip communities — both rural and urban — with planning

resilient and livable Louisiana.

When planning is prioritized:

Vulnerable communities are strengthened as access to opportunity increases.

Louisiana’s economic competitiveness is enhanced when well-designed communities and regional connectivity attract new businesses.

Communities are better equipped to both preserve and capitalize on their natural resources and assets.

Public health improves as people enjoy more opportunities for physical activity and safer streets exist for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The multitude of unique places, cultural traditions, and vast natural resources are preserved and leveraged to encourage a better quality of life in Louisiana.

The promise of planning.

Louisiana is a unique place rich with natural resources
and cultural identity.

Despite that, we are not guaranteed positive growth
and continued development. But, if we plan, we can be
promised a brighter future that mirrors our vision.

We need your help to make these plans our reality.
